Tribute to Blair Calaway

Blair Calaway

Hard work, faith, family, and fun. After four decades in the cattle business, that's still the formula for success at Calaway's Yellowstone Ranch. 2010 brought a very sad year. After telling his family “I'm in good shape”, on the early morning of July 15, 2010, the big shoulders of the business, Blair, passed away after several years of declining health. A man who had always been there with guidance and advice for his family was gone. A go getter zest for life and a never die ethic for anything worth doing. The family plans on carrying on the spirit of a man who loved his wife and family, his cattle, a horse that could travel, a good cow dog, telling his grand kids tall tales, eating jam out of the jar, and his wife's homemade pie.

In September 2010, Velma celebrated her 80th birthday and on December 20th, Blair and Velma would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Blair used to say “time heals all wounds,” however, this is one wound that will take a long time to heal.

His wife Velma, daughters Patsy and Cindy, son Kevin, and daughters Mitzi and Collette, plan on running the ranch with respect for nature and love of the cattle and land Blair taught them.

All the fun, hospitality, good food and memories will still be there at the ranch. "Home is where the herd is," Blair used to say. The family can still hear the voice from the past saying “lets get to work”, so that is what they intend to do.
